Turtlehead, when I make one, it'll have a special way of putting a towel on it so I can dry my hands...as I do frequently while cooking. I can't stand having to walk across the room, just to dry my hands and then move back across the room to work on what I'm doing. The time waste drives me bonkers...not to mention the water dribbles on the floor.

my fav one has a little loop sewn into it. (at the waist) I took some cheap kitchen towels and put a button and button hole on the corner.. so I can just stick it thru the loop and button it, so it hangs there just where I need it.(Velcro works too)
I hope that made sense lol

I know, I feel the same way when someone leaves a comment on my blog.
I just tried again and got the same error message. It's probably my computer here at work, it gets a little crazy sometimes. I'll try again once I get home.

Another apron lover here. I wear the bib style, because I am messy when cooking. Always seem to splatter.
I spent yesterday making aprons. Used an old bib apron for a pattern, and make the pockets out of contrasting fabric. Added trims. I buy a twill tape to use for the neck strap and ties. Just because it's easier!
I was in a shop last week and saw a darling bib apron out of floral shabby-chic type fabrics. Bib style with two ruffles on top and about three on bottom. Too cute! Am going to try one of those, too.

I LOVE your blog...and your reasons for wearing an apron!! It's my "Work Uniform".
I LOVE LOVE LOVE aprons by Park Design. You can get them at high end kitchen stores, but they are well worth every penny. I have three of them and they are life savers. (OK. shirt savers!) They hae a loop at the hip for a towel and that's my favorite part! How many times do you need a towel to wipe hands and viola! It's right there! They are sturdy, make of thicker fabric and they hold up well.
HEre's what one of them looks like. http://www.thingsfromtheattic.com/ca...F_Shopping_com

yep... 99% of the time I'm wearing a bib style.
But for holiday gatherings etc.. they make so many pretty ones that are half-aprons.

My aprons are all the bib style, too. with plenty of pockets. I make the ties long enough to wrap around and tie in the front, then I tuck my towels through the "belt" that the ties make. It is easier for me to take the towel off my waist than to find a pot holder lots of times
The pockets generally contain all sorts of utensils, and the occasional wine cork. Unfortunately, I don't wear them often enough (the aprons, not the wine corks) so my clothes end up taking the brunt of the cooking spills
My mother and grandmothers all used to wear aprons. It was kind of odd...the farm grandma wore a wrap around-fasten inthe back kind with big pockets. The city grandma wore a plain serviceable white waist one (no bib) and my mother had dozens of very frilly things. It was "what you wore" in the 50's I guess. She even had hostess aprons made from taffeta. pink with white ruffles. and a couple of very chic black ones. I had forgotten about them until she died, and I went through her closets. There they all were, wrapped up in tissue.

Dana, I looked at your site, it's a lovely, wonderful site! I wish I was savvy enough to set up a site like that, but I don't think I have enough going on around here to warrant it. But your site is really awesome! And I remember seeing that denim raggedy quilt in the background of one of your apron pictures when you did the Wife Swap show--I saw that quilt on the back of y'alls sofa and said "I WANT ONE OF THOSE!'
BTW, I live not too far from you!
I have aprons too, and wear them regularly. Once a while back I even jumped in the car to go shopping and was inside Kroger before I realized I had forgotten to take it off. Talk about 'doh!' It was one of the long Daisy Kingdom aprons (I can't remember the pattern number but it's the wrap around kind which took me forever to figure out how to get INTO the cotton pickin' thing!)
I also kind of collect apron patterns, all kinds. Resale shops are awesome places to find apron patterns, I mostly find them uncut/unused, which is great.
Wonderful thread, Dana! Thanks for starting it.

There's no need for anything special on the apron, just tuck the towel under the apron string. I've been known to have one on each side. A 'clean' one for drying my hands and a 'dirty' one for wiping up spills.

**blushing** thanks! But as you can see.. I dont really have anything major going on around here either... just normal everyday things that I like to ramble on and on about lol I even use a free site (Blogger) to do it, backgrounds and all! I bet you could do one the same if not better than mine.
You live near here? cool!! Howdy kinda-neighbor!

Here's the pattern for my latest apron. Of course they don't show it in the picture, but you get the idea. http://www.countryporch.com/kitchen-...t-and-blue.asp
Heres some more aprons they offer.

Since Park Designs makes aprons and accessories for speciality stores they don't have a website or a way to directly order from them. If your local specialty store doesn't have them then try this Country Porch place. I ordered an apron from them and they were nice and friendly. The order got here fast and was perfect!

Dana, Now see what you have done! I was out shopping today and came across plain aprons(restaraunt style). They came in packages of 3. So I bought a package of red and a package of blue. Figured I could embroider them all differently over the winter. Now to figure out what I want to put on them!

That does it, I gotta make me an apron! They are just too darned handy.
I was going to make pajamas or try my hand at quilting but I think the apron might win out as my next sewing project.
Unless it gets cold, in which case I'll do the pajamas...
mutter, mutter.... talk to self... :baby04:
But those are real cute!

Does anyone know of an apron pattern that doesn't have a tie around the neck? Or a halter neck for that matter. I also don't really care for the ones that wrap around. (I know I'm picky)
I have seen some old-fashioned aprons that I really like, I'm just not sure how to describe them.
