I knew there was something I wanted to add yesterday and finally figured out what it was.

Try posting on HT's real estate section on the barter board? http://www.homesteadingtoday.com/real-estate/

[QUOTE=ruby_jane]Housing Authority around here makes sure that the "bedroom law" is enforced...each child has to have a bed and a bureau or someplace to put their clothing. Ugh, gotta love this state!

[\qUOTE]

You don't HAVE to live in the housing authority do you? If you just rent a house on your own, who can tell you how many kids per bedroom? As for family services, why would they bother with you unless there have been complaints in the past and they are keeping an *eye* on you. Almost everybody I know has kids and none of them have ever been examined by DFS to see how many bedrooms they have.

The less dependent you are on governmental services the more freedom you have to choose how to live your own life.

We don't live in a housing authority apartment--we live in a regular house. Housing does the licensing for rentals around here and "makes the call". No complaints nor any reason for CPS to come out; maybe me just being silly or paranoid, that's all (LOL!). It is virtually impossible to be able to rent a 2 bedroom with my size of family .

ruby jane I heartily recommend you go read some of the posts in the Housing forum on The Simple Living Network. Their thinking is often "outside the box" and they offer a fresh perspective you may not see with your "present set of eyes".

Best of luck to you.

My ex-dh lived with a woman in a two bedroom 14x60 mobile home with six children. It's all about what you are willing to deal with, that's all.

when i was small, ie younger lol, we had a 2 bedroom place that my dad later added on to make a 3 and then a 4 bedroom but the kids stayed in the bedrooms ( i guess in your case 2 kids in each) and mom and dad slept on a fold down couch in the living room. the bed rooms didnt even have doors just curtins in the doorways. so instead of having the kids in the living room as has been suggested and having CPS on your case the kids can have the bedrooms and you can make due till you find what your looking for. this could work for a buy as well as a rent and you could add on later as you can afford to.

just a thought.

We have a 3 bedroom 1 1/2 bath home coming up for rent in September in Beckley, WV. Rent is $850 if you are interested.
