Love this show! Didn't think I would, as I'd already been a convert to the British version. David Brent (the British boss) remains a more engaging character IMO, but Michael Scott definitely holds his own. Dwight's British counterpart Gareth is pathetic in comparison - he is the scrawniest ex-soldier you could ever meet; no one takes him seriously. At least Dwight is a wacko you know you should avoid, even though Jim presses his luck. Jim and Pam are pretty good representations of Tim and Dawn. If you look at either show as a copy of the other, you'll never enjoy either of them, but they differ enough that as separate entities they really are both good shows. The British version is better at making embarrassingly uncomfortable moments, and the Christmas finale creates absolutely heartbreaking moments that make you feel sorry for that jerk of a boss. I have the DVD's and even the illustrated scripts of the British version, which are hysterical in their own right. So yes, thumbs up for the Office!

Another vote for "I love it"
If you're on myspace, do a search for The Office. Not all of the actors have myspace pages, but many of them do: Jenna/Pam, Kevin, Paul/Toby, Angela... lots of funny stuff, and you should see some of the fan art that people send in.
Office Space a great movie too. I've been out of the office world for many years now, and you couldn't pay me to go back.

I absolutely love this show! It's one of the few shows that actually make me laugh out loud. My husband doesn't get it. Not at all. But he's never worked in an office and I spent 15 yrs in them. Maybe I can relate to it more than he can. I don't know, I just think it's one of the funniest shows on the air.

We watch My Name is Earl, then change the station. I think I would like it but my husband doesn't. Which is fine, I only watch two or three shows a week.

I might be an aberration since I've never worked with others in an office situation, but I record and watch the show every week for the comedic value.
Judging from my personal experience, I find that those of superior intellect tend to like shows like this.

True, too true.
On the other hand I'd wager that most of those who do enjoy it aren't regular Nascar fans either.

I just don't get it. I watch My Name Is Earl, and think that's hysterical, but I just don't get The Office. And I've tried! I really have! I WANT to like it.....

It's like most series, you have to watch it a time or two before you really know what's going on behind the scenes.

Mmmmyeah, having worked in several offices (like "The Office" and like "Office Space") I can totally relate to The Office.
I have had a boss who is almost that bad, and worked with people who were that psycho. I was the squeaky wheel who complained about the status quo ("Why doesn't someone tell her that we're all gagging from her perfume?") and so forth.
Everyone couldn't understand why I couldn't just 'get along', but when things were really blatant, I felt the need to step up.
Probably why I'm an happily unemployed housewife in northern Idaho.
