Things like this just turn me into a scrooge. She can't work because the 18 yo can't be left alone for very long. What did she do when those kids were babies? Those kids are old enough to understand the situation, and to flip burgers, shovel walks, help out. Her husband just left 2 weeks ago...they were BOTH sleeping in the living room? Sounds like it's time for her to bend over, lace up those Nikes, stand up, and get a grip. You can live without store-bought gifts for Christmas. A video camera?

This is so pathetic. That old and she still needs to learn that hard times build character. She's got a mighty pile of wants, but I am not seeing needs.

Both DH and I pretty much live paycheck to paycheck. We saved up all year to buy our Christmas tree ($35) and a few gifts to each other. We started buying DD gifts back in August when we had a few extra bucks. Im also selling my crafts and art on eBay to put away as extra money.
We are also fortunate that a local agency is also going to give our daughter some toys and us a food basket.

I think her husband probably just pampered her too much. If you look at the stuff she had sold it was pretty expensive stuff.
And Boleyz those Santa's your talking about are expensive too!! I saw one in CVS and it was like $100!!!

Kinda funny if you look at her listings she has had in the last few weeks, it looks like she's selling all of her dh's clothes that he didn't take with him.

My 12 year old is getting heat and ele. I am not a cruel person it is just that needs before wants. When asked by strangers what he wants for christmas he says he does not know what he else he needs. Everyone knows that we do not have much he could very well play the poor me game. Instead we are getting into the spirit by helping a family decorate their home. ( the person is unble to do it and we miss doing it) Taylor is enjoying the making of cookies and he is cutting kindling for 7 adults at our church who act as mentors to him We will be out singing with a group of strangers and friends we will enjoy the Holidays with out gifts. This lady is never going to be happy with anything she has because she can not see that being a family is a wonderful gift in its self.

Auction ended. Not one bid.
I was amazed to see how many of those mystery auctions are going on eBay too.

Ya know, not many folks are going to buy a "Pig in a Poke", and the folks who have the money to do so didn't usually get their money by doing foolish things.

IMO she'd have done better to have said, "Here's what I've got in a box for sale, and because of my circumstances, I'd appreciate any generous bids I can get."

Then, she could have related her sob story and maybe someone would have had compassion on her...

But the way it was set up, it was obvious she was trying to get you to bid on unknown crap that was valued far below her BIN. If you'd paid $1800.00 and recieved a box filled with manure, wouldn't you feel just a tad abused?

I think it was the "Fear of the Unknown" about the box contents that kept the bidders away. JMHO

I think it was pretty clear the items in the box had no value, or she would have sold those individually.

She could get the kids something for Christmas if she'd:

sell the digital camera
cancel the internet service
sell the computer

There was one last year that I got a kick out of:

the woman was sick of picking up after her husband and kids. She told them that anything not put away each day would end up in the "auction box". She's keep the money earned from the auction to get herself something, since they didn't appreciate the things she had bought THEM.
Each day she'd edit the auction box's contents on ebay so you'd know just what you were bidding on. Jeeez! There ended up being small tools, a gameboy and games, books, a pair of shoes, a watch... I watched it like a soap opera. The bids kept going up as the box got more full.

Maybe I'm easily amused, but THAT was a good one! And she started the bidding at just a few dollars, which made it believable. I was even ROOTING for her!

This lady in the OP is just a quack!

She has a few other listings, along with a new mystrey auction.
One item was for a broken XBOX with a starting bid of $199 then she revised it to a starting bid of 99 cents.

I don't know why she didn't just auction off the stuff she planned on putting in the box. Or that dancing Santa she had in some photos.
