Loose air-breather on Chevy 66 3/4 ton

Would a loose air-breather cause the problems for a pick-up not to idle? The screw or bolt is broken which secures it to the carb. It is precariously wired in place.

Remove the air cleaner assembly completly, run the truck and see if the problem goes away! Its not going to hurt the engine to run without the filter for a short time,

As long as the wire you use to secure the breather onto the carb does not intefere with any of your throttle linkage, than the wire is not the source of your problem.

get a can of spray carb cleaner and spray around the base of the carb. if it idles up then a simple 2 dollar gasket is all you need. also spray around the linkage on the side or anywhere air might be able to sneak in and if it idles up theres your problem. also sometimes the idle screw or the mixture screw will back out over time causing it as well.

Sounds like a vacuum leak, no biggie. Pretty simple to check, as stated above.

Nope not the problem. As stated previously, the ruff ideling will more than likely be
vacum leak
timeing
plugs.

start with the vacum hoses. That old a model there wont be very many. probably three.
PVC valve
power brake cannister
windshield wiper.
