Before you spin him over, make sure he is timed properly. You do not want to be breaking needles unnecessarily. What do you feel is odd about it?

The feed assist over the sweep for a start. The lock for the sweep, the lever for the tongue swing release.

I have a 315 which i like but the 277 has Hydroformatic (?) for bale tension. Supposed to be a plus so i have heard.

Buy a service manual . Check the timing . Do not over grease the knotters . Do not pressure wash knotters blow off with compressed air . Sharpen or replace twine knives . Make sure the hay wedges are in the bale chamber and the springs are not broken on the hay dogs . Check for big grooves worn in the needles where the twine goes through it there are big grooves weld or braze them shut and polish smooth . Check to make sure plunger safety stop moves and the spring is good . Check the gear box oil . Lube the drive chains . Put some good twine in it and bust a few bales and feed them through by hand to see if she is gonna tie or why not . 277 should be a good baler if it was taken care of .
