Cast iron griddle - can I...

... grind off a handle? I have a sizable rectangular griddle (new) that has a handle at each end. Because of (and only because of - the placement would be ideal without it) the "other" end handle, it displaces burner coverage on our stove.
Is there some way it can be ground off without cracking the griddle or weakening it in any way?
Not sure which forum to post this in, so am going to post in several. Thanks for any insight.

If it were me I would use a hacksaw to cut the segment off and I would leave a small area protruding. Then I would take a fine grit sandpaper mounted on a motorized sander and dress the saw marks from the surface. Following this I would then re season the altered area to where it would over time blend in with the original finish.
