Battery maintenance

I put a new battery in the Bronco. Didn't realize it was a sealed lead acid battery until I was putting it in. This is the first time I have had a battery that didn't have removable caps for adding water. I did have to add water to them.

What maintenance is required on the new battery? Seems to me that the electrolyte will still evaporate so how do you add water?

I bought a new car that had a sealed , maintenance free battery . That battery lasted 13 years without being touched . Best battery I ever had . It was a Delco with the green eye .

The battery that came with the new Bronco was a Delco with the green eye. I don't recall it being no maintenance but it lasted for 13 years also. I couldn't find a Delco when I replaced it. The second battery lasted 5 years and it was one you could add water to.

I've been using sealed batteries for the last 15 years or so, and have never had a problem with them. When the batteries are sealed, there's no way for the acid to leak, evaporate, etc. We have a battery plant near us (Deka), and sealed batteries are what they sell you when you buy direct from them. I don't see myself going back to the old style. Curt

just so long as it doesn't go dead and freeze it should have a long life. sealed batteries are made so that the water that is typically lost is recycled back into the battery. or at least something like that, i don't remember the specifics.

There is no maintenance on a sealed battery, that's why they are sealed. The only maintenance required would be to maintain a charge if it sets for a month or more
