Hydraulics and round bailers
Me and my boy are gearing up to try to use a bored out 40hp AC WD on a 4 X 5 round bailer. Weve been told that although engine wise, on level ground it should be doable, that we may well have problems with the hydraulics.
Question is, How can we get around the hyd on the tractor, for some more potent?

You may put a different pump and controls on it and run it off the front of the engine. But you can buy another tractor for the money to do that.

If your PYO isn't being used you can install an run a Hrydrlic pump on it.
I sure would like to see the tractor to replace the WD that cost less than a new remote pump and plumbing.

I wouldn't be using a that tractor to round bale on hills.. thats for sure, especially since a 4x5 bale + baler = weight of tractor.
I'd use that tractor to cut and rake, and another to bale up....

Im on flat ground, except for around 4 acres.
I was wondering about trying to run a pump off of the pulley drive.
I paid $1000 to get my hay bailed last year. Im going to sell the hay to make enough money to be able to put down on a place up by my kids. Now, I can buy a bailer for round that to say $1,500 in order to bale up say 16 acres, and not be hurt any different than last year. BUT, IF I go and buy a tractor AND bailer also, I wont make a dime this year towards the down payment, so that's why im trying to get by THIS YEAR with the AC WD

Well, have you thought about buying a small square baler? Cheaper to run, cheaper to buy.. more cost in labor... 16 acres isn't THAT much hay....

Will that $1500 baler do the job with out $2000 worth of parts? There is nothing cheap about keeping a baler running.

You must have a crappy baler.
When I baled over 10000 small squares a year or when I only bale a couple thousand my balers have been trouble free overall.
Never bought one new and never paid what I bought one for to fix it either.

Many a thousand bales with a WD and a IH T45 baler from late 50's to the early 70'S.
Yes you might be able to make a mounting bracket and run a pump off the belt pulley. Seen a old WC where a farmer made a bracket and mounted a starter on and made it to start the tractor off the belt pulley.

Truckers like the bales when they cross the scales.
Been around balers and swathers my whole life, Carried thousands of dollars worth of parts to them, just part of the reality of owning one and keeping it in good shape.
