Experience With Allis-Chalmers 6140

We're seriously considering buying one of these, with a loader. Approx. 40hp Diesel.

Nice condition and well maintained with under 3K hours.

Anyone had experience with these? If so, how have they held up and how available are parts? I'm brand-agnostic; we have several old and recent JDs in the family plus a few Ford antiques.

There is a great forum at Allischalmers.com, or there was the last time I was on that site.

I'd suspect that if you had any 6140 questions...my goodness, some of those guys on that forum are absolute, walking encyclopedias. Some of those posters seem to know everything there is to know about AC tractors, and then some.

IIRC, the 6140 is the smaller imported diesel.

Those were selling for crazy high prices back when the economy was booming, mostly due to the rarity of that series of tractors.

One major concern I would have would be finding parts for your tractor. I think finding parts for those can be a problem, but the guys on the AC forum will know for sure.

Thank you, clovis! We checked locally about parts, and there's a dealer that stocks parts for the 6000-series AC tractors. A couple of firms are making replacements, so we should be good to go with this machine. Not as common as a Ford 8N or some of the older IH and Deere machines, but seems like parts are there to be had.
