My truck was not grateful.
...for the brand new fuel filler tube i got installed.
I had a grand weekend with my friend from out-of-state, running around doing tourist things with her and even going out deep sea fishing. Then Friday on my way home, the truck suddenly wouldn't go into gear at all, so I had to coast it along the highway, through an intersection, into the entrance of Walmart and through a 4-way stop sign to stop it in a parking spot.
Luckily, other than me yelling, it went smoothly and I got stopped neatly. Once I had it turned off, I could get it into 1st gear(I never actually tried other gears) but when I tried to crank up, the truck lurched forward as if I didn't have the clutch in(which obviously I did).
So it was a phone call to Geico to have them arrange a tow since I pay extra for "full roadside assistance". I will say that I've called on them before for a tow, in a very close location in fact. But this time the agent on the phone told me how they would only pay for FIVE miles of towing! I had to pay out-of-pocket for $80 worth of the towing myself because Geico insisted they would only pay to tow it to the "nearest facility" which happens to be a Ford dealership. No, I'm not paying ten times the price to get repairs done! Especially not at a place that never fixes anything!
So in the end, the tow guy took the Ranger to my mechanic. I paid the $80. Then I got to walk home since the mechanic was closed already(for the weekend naturally) and he won't be able to look at it until tuesday. What fun!
It being the same Ford Ranger, I'm suspecting the clutch has gone out. Sure, it could be just the slave cylinder or some bearings, but I'm guessing the whole clutch went, although I didn't hear the massive noises that people tell me I should have. But the truck engine isn't quiet, maybe I missed it.
Rental automatic car for tues/weds to make it to work and back, hoping the rental will make it down my sandy road, and that I'll make enough money those two days to cover the rental car and fuel, and dare I hope, a little more?
Ugh. The waiting until Tuesday to find out anything is stressing me out! I hate hate hate waiting! I understand "patience is a virtue" and all, but I don't have much of it.
