Fixed my 26 year old dehumidifier!

Not sure if you could do this with newer models, but I fixed mine! The fan would not start. And thus, if I left it on the fan motor would quickly burn out. So I took the cabinet off (6 outer screws and 3 hidden screws covered by front panel). Then took off front panel (2 screws and remove control knob). Took off one screw on motor bracket and then 2 nuts holding motor on. Took 2 more nuts and motor came apart. Cleaned shaft and put back together after cleaning entire inside of unit. Works great now and no longer have to bang on the top to get the fan going! Nice not to have to shell out $200!

Did you lubricate the motor bearings after cleaning?

I put some lubricant on the shaft. Otherwise, I did not take the motor apart.

What brand is your dehumidifier? And do you know if they still make a similar model? I meed to replace the pos two year old one i have and would like to buy something that will last. 26 years would be worth spending a little extra on up front. Thanks

This is a White-Westinghouse WED15P2
I see the motor is no longer available, so it is a good thing I got my working.

Also have a West Bend popcorn maker that was given to me USED 27 years ago! I repaired this a few years back and it still works fine! Like they say "They don't make em like the used to" !
