Deep well pump replacement

Pulled up the hoses to see what's at the bottom. The well hadn't been used for probably more than 10 years, and there's some black gunk on the brass part at the bottom. What would be a good cleaner to soak it in and to clean it up, both inside and out?

Wire brush and water to clean. Open up the jet and clean and wash out the debris. A new foot valve to replace the old one.

Better choice is to replace the setup with a submersible pump. Far less issues with the submersible pump and more efficient also.

A submersible is the better option, but you have to figure $6-700.00 by the time you get it in. For cleaning that up, it's probably iron and other minerals BTW, a good hosing followed up with a wire brush and scraper and a thorough interior flush will do it. You can soak it in CLR if you want. Replace the foot valve and screen, it's foolish not to while you've got it out.
