Hydraulics questions

I have a tractor with a front end loader that's not working correctly and I don't have much of an idea even where to start.

The bucket will 'roll' forward to dump and backwards to undump but it will only lift about 2 feet. I'm fairly sure the problem is in the valve because the only way to get it to lift that much I have to move the lever down and the the left which would normally cause the bucket to roll back and lift.

Any thoughts?

Not to insult but have you checked the fluid level in the reservoir tank? What type pump, vane or gear? Any filter in the system?

Don't worry about insulting we've all had brain farts. But level's been checked. The pump, gear, was replaced about 6 months ago. I didn't think to ck the filter.

I will just stick my neck out and state that the pump is starving for oil. Either that or the system is not making pressure due to a number of possibilities such as bad pump, internal leak in piping, blown seal or defective pressure relief valve (broken spring), etc.

If your are having to jimmy the lever, to a different axis, to get it to move properly, that's where I'd look too.

Can you ID the loader, to see if a service manual is available?

I got a factory service guide, off eBay, for my old ford backhoe loader, that is extremely detailed, in troubleshooting and repair.

Joy stick control right? Goes up on curl and lift position. So something's out of alignment on the stick and the oil is by passing (any weird noises?)

Yes weird noises. Any guesses if this something someone with fairly good mechanical ability can fix or am I looking at a shop bill?

I'd try to find an exploded parts view of the joystick assembly to see what's inside.
That may answer your question

Never pulled one apart myself, I've seen them apart, and there are quite a few to be apart at that! Must be simpler ones out there I'd hope!

Is the oil foaming when it's hot?
