1.8 4 cylinder gas or 1.8 4 cylinder diesel. The diesel was pretty efficient, there's an Amish fabricator in Michigan I believe that uses them for powering portable sawmills.

Bill,

What if I told you diesel gets more MPG's then gas?

There is a reason why Semi Trucks use diesel and not gas.

I think you are comparing Apples to Monkeys.

In the same weight truck a diesel of the same size as a gas engine will get better MPG.

You were talking about an Isuzu Pup

The diesel motor is more more efficient than the gas version.

This is from the .GOV website

Isuzu Diesel
30
City
35
Highway

Same size and year Isuzu Gas motor

22
City
29
Highway

Here is the link so you can see it for yourself.
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Power...WD&srchtyp=ymm

if you do the math, you will see that it is cheaper to run Diesel plus a diesel motor is simpler and has more power as well as normally lasts longer.

Um.. The biggest reasons are more torque, less maintenance, and because they last a lot longer than gas engines before a rebuild is needed. They have a lot less parts too... The fact they get better mileage is because there is more stored energy in the fuel..

Thank you for agreeing with what I already said. :+)

I have never owned a diesel but have been thinking about getting one for my next truck.

I was writing my comment as you posted yours, and I hadn't seen that before I posted mine

IF what you are saying is right, and I imagine it is, I bet finding a diesel engine for the Pup would be next to impossible in good shape and used.
