Car fan question

Could someone tell me what would cause my car fan to run continuously as soon as I start the car? The check engine light has come on since this started happening. At first I thought it might be because my transmission was
really low on fluid but I guess that was not the case. The water level is ok and I am at a loss on what to do and really don't want to take it
anywhere to get fixed if there is some other things that I could check.

Thanks, Happy

If it's an electric fan, it could be the heat sensor.

If it has a clutch, that could be the problem

I'm assuming you mean the fan under the hood, and not an interior fan

The fan come on instantaneously when you start the car with the air off and the temperature gauge show cold or normal while driving? Temperature sensor circuit, now on my Focus if the air conditioner is on, the fan runs regardless of the temperature of the engine. What car is it?

It's a '95 ford contour. And it's the fan under the hood

Take it to Autozone or somewhere and have the codes read. Most likely one of the temp sensors is bad.

Ha! We just had this problem with our car . I say "had" because it magically fixed itself this week...

It was supposedly the temp sensor, because of our car model we were going to have to replace the whole fan assembly $1000 ($400 used).

It all started when the car overheated & blew out the radiator on a really exceptionally hot day I had done a lot of driving (thankfully in the driveway!), the check engine light was on for awhile, it's off again.

The battery was draining because of the constant running of the fan, so for a few weeks we were pulling the fuse every time we stopped the car (that was fun while shopping! :P). This week, maybe because of the cooler temperatures, the fan finally stopped running all the time & the car seems to be fine (magic!).

HTHs :S

Temp Sensor or the Fan sensor is bad. Have code read should tell you which one.
