Update to pump problem
You may remember me posting awhile back about my leaky deep well jet pump.
Continuing well issue
Today I rolled up my sleeves and went after it. I was convinced that if I could just find that "sweet spot" Where the brass collar would sit on the pump housing and be loose enough that it wouldn't bind up, but tight enough that it wouldn't leak. No dice. I discovered that even if it was too tight it would still spray water. Also, it turns out there was no check valve on the tank so it was spraying full time.
I took off the motor and discovered that I could pull upward on the connecting collar and cause the top of the impeller assembly to seat against the inside of the top of the pump housing. I thought "what the heck, might as well give that a try".
I loosened the set screw on the on the connecting collar, removed the washers below the motor, tightened the motor down to force the shaft deeper into the collar, tightened the set screw, took the bolts back out of the motor, lifted the motor, stuck as many washers as I could fit between the motor mounts and the pump and tightened them up.
Worked like a charm!
Turns out I was doing the exact opposite of what I should have been doing.
