Dasco Scratch Awl

How does one sharpen the tip on these old awls? I have Grandpa's and the tip is a little dull from years of abuse (mostly using it to make anchor holes in drywall). Don't have a grinder, just files and a decent stone.

It can be done with a stone. Just make sure you keep turning it as you sharpen.

I bought a Harbor Freight awl not too long ago and haven't tried it out yet. Wonder how hard it is?

For some uses I use old garage sale ice picks. They are harder and don't bend like the newer ones.

For scratch marking I often just use the one from a combination square.
