Unless he is working on something really light like 22 or 24 ga. you could probably purchase something more common like .030" wire and some replacement tips for his welder. I have a little 110 vac, suitcase welder that I use when tacking together frames inside residences that I run .030" flux core. Runs really good.
Have you tried at your local weld shop?
.023" seems to be less common around here. Most people TIG when working on light material instead of trying to push that fine wire.
