48 willys PU project

Well, thought I would start a little thread up here regarding my old willys PU

Bought her originally in 1990 as a father son project. Typical old drug in from the field junk heap, complete with the obligitory rifle and shot gun holes.

Here is what we did on the first build.........Total body off rebuild and built a ford 260 V8, hooked up to adaptor plate to original 4x4 set up.

It was a great little tree climber but had no top end over about 50. THe son used it on numerous fishing and camping trips as it was active 4x4

So, son goes off to college and sister get the Willys.
Out with the 4x4 stuff. Keep the 260 ford (62 merc comet engine) find a 5 bolt bell housing and 64 mustang 4 speed. Hook that up to a 65 comet rear axle. Ok so we got the drive train taken care of, but the front end is still a problem for a girlie type girl.

Do a little bit of measuring and remove the spring perches but leave the front frame horns intact. See a 80 model pacer front clip will fit right in side to side.
That Gave her (the car and the daughter)front disc, power brakes and rack and pinion with power. She drove it till SHE went off to college. Youngest daughter wasnt interested. SHe wanted a geo metro ( I failed that one)

The Willys now sits in the garage, covered up with dust and stuff and hasnt moved since 98.

Looking at her the other day and two things occured to me............

Still looks good after all this time and.......no electronic ignition or electronic componets................All old school hot rod build.

So, Im gonna start on her to bring her back to life and running.......

Just thought I would post in here as there seem to be some preatty salty auto gear heads of their own right in this section

From a general over look, I know the gas tank was leaking when I parked her. The tires are flat on the bottom as I didnt put it on racks, I have noticed some wire damage from mice before I put in the mouse bait, and the
battary to ground is severly corroded, even though I pulled the battery.
In addition I noticed the resistor wire is cooked and swollen..........

As I move forward I will highlight what she takes to bring back to life.

Just something to keep me un bored this long hot summer.

Hope some of ya find this interesting as a shop talk thread..................:banana02:
