Buick Straight Eight Starter

Before I start the long trek to find one, does anyone here have a 6 Volt Starter w/Solenoid for a Buick Straight 8 (early 50s) they would like to let go of?

Is there a resource you know of that may be able to help me?

Thanks in advance!

Do you have an old one or need one that works? If you have a old one check with rebuilders. Might try Ebay. Good luck Sam

There used to be this old junk yard near by that had tons of old 30s-50s stuff. Unfortunately the DNR got on the guy's tail so bad that he wound up scrapping most of it. I run a lot of old equipment and vehicles (mostly 40s and 50s era). I've had to fix some generators and starters. Last time I had a starter fail on me I bought it into the local electric rebuild guy. It was off of a 53 Willys Aero, cost me about 20 bucks for him to get it working again. Your cheapest bet would be to find a rebuilder locally.

Should be able to get a starter solenoid from the parts store. I know for sure that Advance Auto carries them for an early 50s Buick.

If you don't mind importing one, there is a junk yard about ten miles down the road from me that specializes in 40s-60s vehicles. I'm in Alberta, Canada. However, I do recommend trying to have it rebuilt locally first. It would probably be cheaper.

Thanks Sam, Phil and Bill.

I like to give my hard earned money to friends and family before businesses. And then local business before national chains.
I am old fashioned like that.

A solenoid for now will get the old buggy back on the road and there is an Advanced Auto just up the road a bit. I did not think of that. Thanks.

I like to have a few of the electric parts on hand, that is why I inquired about the whole starter. Finding original 6 volt parts is getting more difficult as time goes by.

Thanks again.

Not sure if any of these are what you're looking for, but you might want to try Ebay:

Me too, a Roadmaster. They were a real lead sled. The interior was pretty amazing. Dimmable dash lights, pull out map light, right side of steering wheel turn signal lever, turn down radio antenna so it didn't break off when going into the garage, fold down arm rest, cigar lighter for the back seat, back seating area heater under the front seat, fender skirts that bolted to the area behind the rear door to prevent theft, etc.

Dark green--naturally.

Really enjoyed the way the hood opened, push the lever on the side and it tilts up from that side. Open both side levers at the same time and simply set the hood off.

Hey, we must not forget the starter engagement-----turn the key on and push the throttle pedal all the way to the floor to engage the starter. Ah yes, Buick engineering.

Would love to build two hot rods---one with a massive straight eight and the other with a tiny Crosley inline four cylinder. Open engine compartments of course like the old T-bucket rods.

Not to steal from the thread but collector car appreciation day is July 9th as proclaimed by the U.S. Senate.
