Talking Up draft carb cleaning.

what to soak a carb in to clean it with out resorting to expencive CARB CLEANERS.

I think I read some place once, paint thinner?

hi

maybe if its not too bad the sea foam or something similar might work, or just rinsing the inside like the others said, but if the veins inside the casting are grown up with varnish you might need a commercial cleaner as they will dissolve the varnish, where other less harsh cleaners will only partially do the job. If you use a strong commercial carb cleaner more than 20-30 minutes be sure to remove all gaskets as most won't do well in a 24 hour soak. I got some at autozone for $11 a few months ago, and nothing will replace commercial carb cleaner for a carb with varnish inside the veins, that I know of. If you keep stabilizer in the gas at all times this should never be a problem. With this new gas since they took the lead out it has allowed the gas to varnish quickly, and some brands have proven to turn to varnish within 4 weeks, this was verified and advertised on "the rest of the story" by Paul Harvey several years ago. good luck, ray
