need help w/ignition on 1996 Isuzu Oasis

Relpaced ignition switch on my Isuzu Oasis. Key still wont start it but using a screwdriver will start it. Any suggestions on where to look or does anyone have some ideas on trouble shooting. Thanks. Lone Pine

sounds like the starter Bendix solenoid is bad, when the solenoid goes bad you can bypass it by jumping across with a screwdriver or the like. most are on the starter but some like ford are on the firewall or fender well. you'll have to find out where it is and change it out. I've changed alot of them. be sure to ask at the parts store or a friend or look up online youtube how to do it it will save you some severely smashed fingers, if its on the Bendix spring, or just show you how if its separate. best wishes ray
