2005? Chevy Silverado 4x4 issue

I drove my truck to work on Sunday, it was operating fine. Parked and loaded up papers and when I went to leave it jumped and clunked into 2nd and made a noise going into 3rd. I was right by a gas station so stopped and checked tranny fluid. It was low (but surprised the idiot lights did not tell me that). Added fluid (still running), but all they had was type A...well could not obtain Mercon-Dextron II anywhere at that time of night so it was that or nothing. So put it in. The issue continued to the next town and for the first half of paper route whenever I went fast enough to go into 2nd and 3rd (over 10 mph). I was trying to keep from hitting second as much as possible and figured a trip to the tranny place would be happening on Monday....and trying to figure out how to come up with $1500 to replace tranny and lamenting about how I may have to give up Brutus. Then hubby said, I know it sounds stupid, but try turning it off and then restarting it. I rolled my eyes at him but did it anyhow. When I took off I was amazed that it shifted as smooth as a baby's butt! It continued to go wonderfully all through the route and again this morning. Now 2 questions...is the type A fluid I added going to hurt my tranny? And what the heck happened? What part do I need to be looking into replacing? I am pretty sure it is some sort of module that was reset upon turning off and restarting and am not assuming it won't decide to go out completely at some point....so want to be proactive and replace the part before it goes out. But what part?

Re-starting the engine re-boots the computer.

I would just moniter the situation and see if it happens again.
It may have just been having cramps.

I couldn't find the smiley face to add at the last.

If a transient condition has tripped a trouble code, restarting the vehicle can clear the code and allow normal operation if the condition is no longer present.

I would suggest having the transmission fluid changed & flushed as soon as possible.

The only way to "reboot" is to totally disconnect the power by removing the battery cables.
I would think if the fluid was low, there may have been air inside, causing it to foam, and shutting it off allowed the air to exit

It has done this a couple more times since Sunday- both times the issue went away after turning off and restarting.
