Voltmeter pegged at 19v

2001 Jeep Cherokee 4L-six

On our way in to work this morning I saw that the voltmeter needle was pegged to the right at 19 volts. Everything seemed to run fine, except for maybe an almost unperceivable, microsecond-in-length, flickering of the headlights.

I could wiggle the positive battery cable clamp by hand. Do ya suppose that's the problem? I will tighten it when I get home tonight. (FWIW, I always keep my tool box in my pickup truck....I'm tempted to buy a cheap set to just keep in the Jeep!)

yes
The voltage regulator could be having a problem with reading the battery voltage due to the high resistance caused by a poor connection.
