How do I get the rotor off my S-10?

Sorry to ask such a dumb question...

I have the distributor cap pulled off my S-10. How do I get the rotor off?

4.3 V6, TBI, 1995.

Is there a screw in the center of the cap that holds it on?

Thanks!!!!

Again, sorry to be so dumb....

I believe that is a push on rotor. You can take a large screwdriver and go under the rotor, twist the screwdriver forcing the rotr upwards, should pop right off.

Should be just a push on/pull off. If it has been on there a long time you will need to pry it up like Beeman said.

Get a haynes manual, it has pictures and how to sections...

Okay....thanks for the input.

The rotor cap is back by the firewall, and I can't see over the top of the thing. I felt for a screw in the top, and looked on all sides to make sure there wasn't a set screw.

I ran out of time before I could get something to stand on to get a better look.

BTW, should I use a block of wood to pry against?

As well, could a guy use a BFCL? (Big Freaking Channel Locks)

Thanks!!!!!!!

Just put the big blade between the bottom of the rotor and the reluctor and twist the blade. Don't attempt prying or you might do damage.

While you have it off, I'd replace it. They're not that expensive and it would be a good preventative measure.

Well, it turns out that it was the problem...that or the cap.

FWIW, I worked and worked at getting that rotor off. It finally shattered into 87 pieces, so replacement was a must....not an option. That thing was really stuck on the end of the shaft! I used all my might, as did Dad when he showed up, with no avail.

The old cap and rotor said Delco Remy. I wonder if it was the original cap and rotor? As brittle as that one was, it makes me wonder if they were original to the truck?

Truck runs great after a new distributor cap and rotor...and starts like a new one!!!!

Thank you!!!!!!!
