Honda Generator question/opinion

Hi All,
Buddy of mine offered me a free Honda generator (don't know the model/HP/Watts yet). It needs new rings according to him. Obviously, I said "Sure, Thanks". My question is this; do a ring job (never done one on a generator before, a 350, yes), look for replacement engine, or just keep as spare parts, since I have a 6500 watt genny already in place?
Thanks,
Matt
PS- I suggested he put it for sale on local classifides and craigslist, but said he didn't want to bother with it if I could use it, therefore, I'd feel uncomfortable selling or swapping it. I'd prefer to go that route, but it feels like I'd be breaking a confidence.

Hey.

If it isn't a 6500 watt generator, the spare parts are limited. Honda's are high quality...I'd go a bit further than a re-ring and overhaul it.

I have had one at the deer camp for years! I always shut the gas off & run the carb dry. next year turn the gas on & 2 pulls it starts. runs my camper AC & all.
