vacuum motor burning out??

My quite-old Eureka mighty mite canister vac started acting up today. It smelled hot-burning rubber sort of smell- & the motor seemed to be revving down. I changed the bag, cleaned the filters and tried again. It seemed to run better, but still smells awful. It won't be worth a trip to a repairperson. Is there more I could do to fix/stretch its life a bit? I'm reasonably handy, but its not worth hours of work to me. Thanks, Sue

I'd guess the brush is obstructed and the belt is burning
