8.1 Chevy....Fuel milage ??

.............Back in June of this year I purchased a used Silverado 3500 Dually with 46k miles . I drive it a couple times a week on a 15 mile round trip to the YMCA to workout . Near as I can Tell it is getting about 10 or 11 mpg . When I drove it back from Ok. at 65 to 70 mph it got about 13 over a 200 mile trip . So , I was curious as too the Milage anyone else here is getting from their 8.1 GMC or Chevy vehicle ? , thanks , fordy

The 454 will get about 10 full or empty and if you pull heavy it will drop to 5 or 6 .

It's not a 454, its one of the newer 8100 vortec engines which I believe is essentially a stroked 454.

A friend had an 03 2500 suburban with the 8.1L and 4L80 trans he used for pulling a large camper. Empty he would get about 13mpg highway at the best. Towing around 8-9 depending on speed and terrain. I never asked about city mileage. But I'd say you're in the right ballpark. His also used quite a bit of oil when towing, like a quart every tank of gas or every other tank, and GM said this was normal.
