Question Multi Meter Voltage tester question

I have one several years old- I went to use it yesterday to check a battery and it keeps pegging out high no matter the setting I put it on. I changed the battery in the meter but it keeps doing it - is the meter shot?

Yes. This mode doesn't use the internal battery btw, it's a passive function.

It sounds like an old analog type with a dial?

It has been a few years, but I know on our old Simpson we would have to calibrate/adjust the meter movement now and again.
(Google it)

Foxtrapper is correct, voltage measurment does not use the battery.

BTW: You can pick up a cheap digital that will meet most household handy man needs pretty cheap these days. I have one I carry in my tool bag that was $4 at Harbor Freight, I have used it to fix many an In Laws problem...
