side arm

I was thinking of installing a side arm for my outdoor boiler do they work or a waste.

A good friend of mine has one and it works very well for him. He shuts the power off to his electric. I gotta get mine finished and installed, we use waaaay too much hot water here!

They do work, the recovery can be slower than your normal hot water heater. If you use one you should really install a tempering valve as well since the side arm will heat your water tank up to the same temp as your boiler, usually 160-180 deg which is dangerous. A tempering valve will reduce it to 120 for use. You may also need to replace the T&P valve if you have a 175 deg valve on the tank.
