New idea rake

I have a new idea 5 bar rake. It doesn't want to turn when there is a load on it.
Does anyone know how the rake works, is there a slip clutch?

How hard is it to fix?

Most side delivery rakes have a "transport"( i.e. out of gear) position and an "operating" (in gear) position for the drivetrain to the 5-bar reel.
Start by determining if it is fully locked in the operating position.

Yes I have to check the gear bow tomorrow. I will make sure it is fully engaging.
The last time I used it it was in thick tedded hay. I plugged it up alot. So I am kind of concerned I wore it out.

Does it have a belt, chain, or direct drive?
Make sure nothing is slipping, everything is fully engaged (if it's a 400 sometimes their lever doesn't slide into place), and that your tires are not all bald and maybe slipping.

If you rake heavy hay, as you said you did, or go over rough ground, you can bend the tines. If those tines are bent they bind or catch on the guide rods.
Some times a ground drive rake can't move heavy hay, so it drags the wheels and bunches up.

If the angle isn't tilted correctly, a rake can "rope-up" hay and plug up.

Tines aren't hitting the ground are they?

No slip clutch. Does this rake have a shaft between the two rear wheels and a short driveshaft with u-joints between the left hand wheel and the gear box? If the basket will turn with no or light load, my guess is that the dogs in the wheel hubs are worn or the recesses in the hubs are full of grease and dirt, or the dog pivots are rusted up.

Something to try. Raise the right hand wheel off the ground and turn it CW and see if that will turn the basket. Then turn the wheel CCW and listen for a clicking noise. No clicking noise means either the dog pivot shaft is frozen, or the lugs in the inside of hub are full of grease and dirt, or the corner of the dog is worn to where it will not engage the lugs.

Do the same with the left hand wheel.

Hope this helps.

Not surer whats going on. I tied the bars so they can not turn. Then I tried spinning the rake, with the drive shaft disconnected. It would not slip. I think the gear box just isn't always fully engaging.
