Rain-X: What do you think?
Just curious what your opinion is of Rain-X windshield treatment was, and if you used it.

What sold me on the stuff was seeing how well it worked on the windshields of the boats I've fished off of in less than ideal conditions. After those experiences I started using it on my cars and trucks and find the added, and ease, of visibility well worth the price.

Same here, I use it on my fishing boat (I use both the exterior formula and interior window formula) and my truck. I rains here all the time and high humidity with cold outside air. Good product.

I always used it on polycarbonate motorcycle windshields. The splattered bugs came off easier, rain sheeted off allowing for better vision, and minute scratches where kind of filled in by the product to make a less than new windshield usable a lot longer before needing replacement.
While I don't use it on my vehicles I do have wiper blades that give the same affect of having Rain-X on the windshield. Water beads right up and runs off.

The Blue Beacon chain of truck washes, offers a Rain-X treatment, in liu of wax, for about $12 more. I can't tell any difference between Rain-x and wax, on my big truck.
I tried it on my pickup, years ago, during a CA rainy season. It works, but does not last, so it need to be re-applied regularily.

I absolutely use it whenever I'm planning a long trip or know that I'll be running into heavy rain. The increase in visibility is across the entire windshield and not just where the wipers normally clear. NOT having the wipers going also makes me more aware of movement within my field of vision. The trick is to get the windshield absolutely spotless beforehand and avoid the use of the wipers.

I bought a gallon of windshield wiper fluid that had rain x added to it, rain x brand wiper fluid if you will. I was impressed, water rolled right off my windshield at highway speed and often times I didn't need to turn my wipers on at all. Unfortunately I haven't seen it for sale again.

I hate it but my husband and sons love it. To me it makes the windshield look like it is crawling. I get vertigo really badly. I can't drive vehicle w/ it if it is raining and have to close my eyes to be a passenger. I have an aunt that said it had the same effect on her when I mentioned it once.

Just my opinion, but for those having clarity issues or other with the product I believe you are putting on too much or not buffing the windshield enough after application.

Try this...
If you have a dish for the tv and computer, spray this stuff on the dish before your first snow and watch the snow slide right off...

Our local auto parts stores have it. I use it and love it.
Funny story about Rain-X.
The family had gathered at my parents to eat for some occasion that I don't remember now. My brother and I began to talk about Rain-x and how much we liked it. My dad, who thinks reading ANY directions is a complete and total waste of time, spoke up and said, "I don't like that stuff. It leaves a film on your windshield."
I said, "You must not be wiping it all off."
He said, "You s'posed to wipe it off?"
My brother and I just looked at each other and shook our heads.

I like to use the RainX washer fluid I find that it gets the water shedding qualities without having to remember to re-apply it.

The wiper motor went out on our old minivan. If it hadn't been for Rain-X I'd never been about to drive home.
Its also great on motorcycle face shields.

I forgot about that but I used it on them too.
I sometimes use it on my bathroom mirror and it seems to help keep it from fogging up.

Well, it has been 7 days since I started this post. I am a bit surprised that we had 217 views, but only 25 votes.
I didn't want to slant the results, so I thought I would wait to share my 2 cents.
About a year ago, I got some free Rain-X wipes at Menards through their rebate program. It is not something I would normally buy, but since it was free, I can't complain. I also picked up a large full bottle of it in a box of junk at an auction for $1.
I love Rain-X for the windshields, especially on my older vehicles. I have found, even with new blades, old glass just doesn't seem to clear as well. The Rain-X seems to make the view through the windshield during rain much, much better. I feel like it is a safety issue, and I feel much better while traveling in the rain in the truck.
I like in on our 06 HHR. It too is a safety issue, but the wipers clear the rain very well on this fairly new glass. Since I am already using it on the old truck, I get the HHR too.
My Dad, on the other hand, hates the stuff. He can't tell you why he hates it, but he just does. He won't even let my try it out on his vehicles to show him how well it works. I once pulled his leg by telling him I just wiped both windshields down with Rain-X, and instead of laughing, he got mad! It has become the family joke to tease Dad about Rain-X.
Thanks for the input everyone!!!! I thought it was fun and informative.

FYI- Menards has had 2 seperate rebates for Rain-X.
I do NOT advise paying full retail for the wipes if they are packaged in the round can. They do dry out fairly quickly.
It appears that the new Rain-X wipes are packaged in a foil/plastic pouch. I haven't open those yet. I hope they retain moisture longer than those in the round plastic can.
