Problems with Lawnboy Lawnmowers

I repair lawnmowers as a hobby and I am having problems repairing 2- lawnboys

)ne Lawnbow has a vertical pull cord and it will not engage the fly wheel, everything seems to be there the nylon gears seem to be ok and the spring recoils the cord and there is another retainer on the nylon gear that seems to be ok, I don't know why it's there. Can some one direct me to a picture so I can make sure the set-up.

2nd Lawnboy is much newer still has the 2 cycle engine and it also has the blake cable the deck is steel problem with this is that it runs for abought 5-8 minutes when started from cold and once it warms-up it starts dying out and then stops it will not start again until the engine is cold again.

For your first problem, check out the following webpage. Find your Lawnboy model number on the page and "click" it.

Your second problem has me baffled. Is the spark plug wet or dry when this happens? If it is dry, try pushing the primer button a few times to give it some gas. See if it then starts.

You have tried new spark plug on mower that runs for few minutes and dies? Last few years even name brand plugs are made with low quality control in 3rd world countries. I've experienced what you describe only with 4 cycle engine and it was faulty plug.

Does it smoke bad when it warms up before it stalls? Could be choke not opening and killing the engine if yours has a choke. EPA control means mowers tend to have one of those primer bulbs rather than a real choke anymore so would have to be old engine. i still dont see how making small engines run poorly helps with pollution in the slightest. But I guess nobody has come up with a way to put computer controlled fuel injection and two catalytic converters on push lawnmower and make it economical.

Anyway its going to be most likely ignition, and if not, then fuel. Either ignition is failing when warmed up or carb is either much too rich or much too lean.

I tried a new plug and the same thing happened, I also checked the kill wire to the ignition coil and that was ok. carb and fuel is ok. I cleaned the ignition coil contacts everything looked ok. I will give this a try and see if this was the problem. I am leaning towards the ignition coil ( wish I had a spare to try hate buying parts when no sure) Thanks for the info I will update.

One other question is there an adapter plate to mount a tecumseh 3.5-hp engine on an older lawnboy aluminum deck or can I just drill new holes and mount.
