Replacing mirror only on side mirror

I have a 2006 Ford Expedition and the wife clipped a utility truck on our road. It only broke the glass-not the plastic mirror holder. How does the glass fit in? Is it press fit, screws, epoxy? Anyone know?

Thanks in advance.

That mirror is most likely held in with a couple of hundred dollar bills. Seriously is this a heated electric mirror? sometimes you can buy a replacement glass that glues over the old glass, usually from the dealer. clean the old mirror glass with alcohol and stick the new glass to it, usually it's a peel and stick. If no glass is offered and you're not that particular you can make a papaer pattern and have a glass shop cut a mirror for you and you can glue it in, you can use 3M double faced emblem/moulding tape.

The inexpensive replacement applies with adhesive backed foam, and if there is enough glass left it goes right over the old glass. Definitely go with the vehicle specific glass mirror too. I've had mine on quite a while (1 year+?)with no complaints except:
Be careful if you go the AutoZone or parts store route because whoever made mine didn't think rounding off the edges of the mirror was necessary. I found this out when I went to adjust the mirror one day and the edge cut me like a razor blade

Go to a glass & mirror store

I went to a place called Harding, now Binswager Glass or something like that, they charged me $ 25 and ground the proper mirror to fit exactly, glued it in with silicone, held it in place with masking tape which I was instructed to remove the next day, the whole process took a half day. Call around for prices, do business with the friendliest voice...

Silicone

When the glass mirror "popped" off of our mirror, I bought a new glass mirror at Autozone - it was fairly inexpensive. Then "glued" it on with a big big glob of silicone.

It's held 2 years now, and it's still firm. Temporary masking tape sounds like a good idea too!

I would look at a used auto parts place or a junk yard. i have had lots o luck at junk yards. Plus you get to walk around and look for what you need which i think is fun.
Good Luck.
