88 f150 fuel pumps?

both fuel pumps seem to not be working took the rear tank off and it was all gumed up inside its a steel tank front one is plastic. the ? i have do you think i could just plug those lines off to the rear tank and use the front one without having any other troubles. im thinking it would work without any trouble but need more opinions.

Why plug them? The tanks have a switching valve that shuts off one tank when the other one is activated. Also on that model some had a filter in the bottom of the plastic switching valve and some didn't, the bottom of the plastic valve screws off.

Left side frame rail under at about the frt. of the drivers door. Looks like a little black space craft with hoses and wires.
