On your CC, you'll likely have to replace the whole fuel pump. They are not too high. I'd do it just as a preventative. Leaky diaphragms can fuel-foul the oil. The fuel pump on V-twin Kohlers is located atop the valve cover, and works off the overhead cam.
Also, if you have the V-twin (not the horizontally opposed pancake engine), there is a fuel shutoff solenoid in the carb. It has a wire running to it. This is most likely your problem.
1.) That wire must get juice the whole time the ignition is on and the engine is starting or running. Turn the key to On and listen for the solenoid click to be sure.
2.) The carb passages controlled by the solenoid must be clear.
The device closes a needle to shut off the gas whenever the engine is shut off.
