What do you call those hydraulic thing-a-ma-jigs?

What is the correct name for the hydraulic things that car makers are using on new cars to raise and hold the trunk lid and hood?

I just bought a screen press, and need to replace those parts. The parts are identical to what is used on a car, but much shorter. I am sure the manufacturer wants a fortune if I buy the part from them.

(I helped order an element for a dryer...manufacturer wanted $390, and we found the identical part from another supplier for half that! Another manufacturer wanted $57 for a heat control switch, and I found one for $16!)

Would like to know the part name so I can google another supplier.

Thanks!!!!

most times the ones for automotive applications like you find at auto zone, advance oreillys etc are quite stiff to hold hoods and hatchs etc.

If it is for something that isnt over 30 or so pounds you might be better off looking at the ones they sell for the truck tool boxs. They arent as stiff as the ones for hoods etc.

Ive seen some that fit a hood that couldnt be compressed using your body weight and ive seen them same length that i could compress using my arms.

Thanks guys!!!!

Supplier wants $29 each, and I would need 4 of them. Bet with a little work, I might be able to get them for a fraction of that price.

Again....thank you so much!!!!!
