Clear Coat

I have a car (GM) that has the clear coat bubbling and peeling in about 3 places. One place is about 18 inches long by about 2 inches wide. The others are circles about 4 inches around. The paint underneath looks good. Is a total repaint my only realistic option? I've heard locally that you can't spot paint clear coat. Anyone tried?

There could be underlying causes for paint failure.

Take the car to a body shop and ask for their recommendation.

Take the car to a GM dealer and ask for their recommendation.

Check to see if there are any recalls from GM for paint problems.

A total repaint may be necessary depending on their findings. However, in general if you were to wreck your car the body shop will only paint what they repair.
