i'm not sure how small some of the ports are in an engine block, but i imagine it could plug some really small ones if they exist.

i have also heard of folks using pepper to plugs leaks.

One egg usually doesn't hurt much. The problem is it's only a temperary(sp?) fix. Might seal the leak for 6 months to a year. Then people like putting a second or third thinking the first one worked so well. Now you have a system full of boiled egg that plugs up everything - the radiator, heater core, smaller block passages.

As soon as it starts leaking again, fix the leak properly and FLUSHthe system.

Place some bacon on the exhaust manifolds now for a tasty easy breakfast!

As you know this is a get home quick fix. The egg wil eventually dissolve and the leak will start again but now you have egg in a cooling system that doesn't want it. Much easier on a small leak to just loosen the radiator cap one notch so the system doesn't build any pressure. This will usually get you home where you can fix it properly.

My Father-in-Law used to seal a cracked block on an old Farmall F-12 with a can of Pet Milk (condensed milk). Get it (engine) warm and slowly pour in milk. (Works like "water-glass" [sodium silicate].

I wouldn't want to be the mechanic that tries to rebuild that engine block!

But, it works for a while!

Care should always be taken with all the "Temporary Fixes" as they seem to turn permanent.
Asking for trouble.
Fix it right as you can!

Fix the vehicle. You are limping along at risks. One risk is the chance of the vehicle overheating and contributing to a much more expensive problem with a damaged engine. The second and greater risk is your daughter having a breakdown on the roadside. Enough said?

I've heard mothballs in the gas tank along with sugar does wonders for an engine (DO NOT PUT THOSE IN YOUR ENGINE YOU WILL KILL IT)

it is a temporary fix.

pepper works, yes. crushed red pepper works better. a radiator shop or someone well-trained fixes it for a long time. the cheap fix is not always the best. i love cheap fixes, but this is not one of them.
