I've got one, and been quite disapointed with it.

I have been soldering electronics for 35 years and know a piece of junk when I see it. Please do not waste your money.

I'd say if you were soldering tiny little wires it might be ok, but other than that I'm sure it won't have enough heat to do much.

Our technitians here at work use them and like them for their ease of use and that they are able to put away right after using them.

Only good for extremely delicate work. They don't really generate heat, they melt the solder by shorting the solder between 2 terminals powered by the batteries. Therefore only the solder gets hot and not the wires and it will only melt fine solder.

Save your money. And put alittle extra with it. Get one of those portables that is propane and refillable. Much better. I used one for my satelite installing business. Use it for years and still have it.

I once found an open and honest Radio Shack salesman who told me all about them, and I didn't but one when he was done.
