Kohler Engines

Looking at a Cub Cadet zero turn mower (new) with a Kohler engine. I've had Briggs mowers without ever having an engine problem. Never had a Kohler.
How good are they compared to Briggs or Japanese engines. Anyone have the Cub Cadet zero turn mower.

Kohlers are ok, I don't think they wear as well as a briggs or kawasaki, but if your not using it for commercial mowing then you should be fine. My father inlaw has a cadet and the only problem he's had is the electric PTO. it burned up the magnet and over heats while mowing. if you shut off the PTO after an hour or so it won't re-engage till its cooled off.
by the way most of the lower line cadets are just yellow MTD mowers

best lawn mower motor i ever owned was a John Deere with a twin cylinder kawasaki motor 19hp on it. This was bought in I believe 93 or 94. I used that thing and abused it for seven years before I bought a new mower and retired it. The motor was still great but the rest of the mower was slap worn out.

Anytime you buy a mower always look for the one with the cast iron cylinders and or marked as "industrial"

Kohlers are just as good as Briggs these days.

Kolers are a good engine. They are used in Craftsman, Kub Catet, John Deer, Kobota, and many of the higher price lawn Tractors. They are a step above the Brigs and Stration.

They troy built tiller I used that was bought in the early 90's has an 8hp Cast Kohler engine. It has had a LOT of hard use and hours. With regular maintenance, it's still going strong.

I don't know if you have a Tractor supply company(TSC) store around you, but they sell Cub Cadet and Huskie brands. if you look at the models they have the Huskie has the exact same chassie. the hoods are different but thats about beside gas tank placement. I was looking at Craftman tractors and they have all gone to Huskyvarna Chassies and use both Kohler and Briggs engines. the top of the line model with a 54" cut with 24hp Kohler for around $2100. the lower line 54" cut was a 24hp Briggs for around $1900. the only thing I saw different was the hoods and paint color.
