Cool Troy-Bilt "Pony"

I've had this mower for a year and everything has been hunky dory - this year after only a day of mowing - suddenly it wouldn't move. Engine runs, clutch engages - etc. - but the mower will not move. It can be pushed but the motor will not move the mower. What happened? Does anyone have a clue?

It sounds like the drive belt may have come off. There should be a belt running from the engine to the transmission if it's a shift, or to the pumps if it's a hydrostatic drive. You'll have to look under it to see it. If it didn't come off, it could be too loose, and it still won't move.

............tyusclan probably pegged it . also , most of these newer , twin blade belly mowers have a fairly complex drive belt and one or more tension pulley's which could be malfunctioning as well . should be covered by warranty if it's only a year old , I'd thimk . fordy...

Cool Thanks

I appreciate your suggestions and will check the operator's manual for belts, etc.
It is a Lawn Tractor according to Troy-Bilt it sure makes mowing a breeze.

i had a feeling when mtd bought troy-bilt (and took all the jobs out of Troy,NY) that they would ruin the troy-bilt name. i have been told by several people that have bought the "mtd troy-bilt" products that the stuff is nothing but junk, the quality is not there any more. i have a 1982 Troy-Bilt pony tiller and have not had any problems with it since 1982.
original Troy-Bilt forever!!!

I'll second what neal68 said.

Unfortunaltey I bought a Troybilt tiller right after MTD bought them. Night and day difference in quaility from the older ones. MTD may put a decent engine on body that can't get the job done. One of my most disappointing purchases in my life.

BTW - I really like my craftsman tiller I bought last spring. Works like I dreamed the troybilt would.

It's pretty amazing how many different names and paint jobs MTD puts on thier machines. You may think you are choosing between three or four brands, but you are only choosing between the name and paint job.
