cigarett lighter plug polarity

Quick question..what is the polatity on an automotive cigerett lighter..the tip that makes contact all the way is is positive and the ring is negitive..right?

Yup! and if you're hooking up one, be SURE to put a fuse in there. I gutted the inside of a customized van because I didn't think it needed one... and it shorted. The fire department was just finishing ripping apart the leather seats when I got there - the whole back end was completely -gone-.

You can check it with an analogue multi meter, needle will swing against right peg if backwards.

A few trucks are positive groud. Look at the battery and if it is a negetave gound you are right but if it is a positive groun it will not be the same.
