It's nothing more than rubbing a painted surface with clay. You can get automotive clays in department stores over by the car waxes. It works remarkably well on skanky painted surfaces. It's that "secret" step to super smooth glossy surfaces. And it does it without wearing through the paint like many polishes do.
Fwiw, I wouldn't recommend rubbing painted surfaces with aluminum foil. Tends to mar the painted surface with aluminum streaks. Though it does work very well on chrome surfaces.
