trusses up

Well after months of not sleeping thinking about how we were going to put up our trusses... They are all up, all 27 of them. Thanks to good family and some redneck knowhow. Haha. They are 44 ft old school trusses made from 2x8 on bottom and top chords so needless to say if was a job with no crane or really any contractor there, but we got it done. Anyhow we got a little out of plumb (like 1"/11/2") how big of a dealnis this besides having to cut sheathing? Thanks.

You might want to re-plumb and then tack on some braces before you go to sheathing. Not only will it make your life easier in the steps to come, but square and plumb make structures stronger...

And I know the feeling! We had 13 roof trusses made of all 2x8s. Those things were HEAVY, and rather wobbly. But we got the roof sheathed and felted this weekend.

Great work.. Have any pictures? Bet it looks really nice..

I agree, you should plumb those up. Not only would it be stronger and make life easier to finish, but over time, a lean can keep getting worse since the weight is pulling away instead of pushing straight down.

I built and put up the 35' trusses, all 2x6, on my shop by myself. Used a duct lift from the rental place to do the lifting and hold in place until I got up there and braced in place.

The duct lift I rented will lift 600lbs 24' in the air by simply cranking a set of handles, extending the boom up and down. When lifting from the inside, you angle the truss slightly to the wall it will sit on, then once you get above the wall, twist it back to sit on the wall.

You DO need a flat floor ( wood or concrete ), but if you have that, these are the trick for raising trusses without a crane.

After fighting just about every piece of board that I've put on this house I second taking the time to get things plumb and square. It will save you time in the long run.
