i maigh be able to help. there are either wires or a terminal board (computer board) where the thermostat wires hook to. terminal board terminals- r,w,y,g,c or x (sometimes others and more variations if electric furnace). R= red this is the 24 volt power supply to thermostat. W= white this is the heat circuit. Y= yellow this is the air conditioning circuit. usually has nothing to do with the furnace only a place to connect the outside unit to the thermostat. G= green this is the fan circuit. this only turns on the fan. C or X= nuetral wire or common. only used in certain cases.

connect R to G to turn fan on. put a switch between those to just run the fan. a cheap thermostat will do the same.

reason we want to put in a fan switch is ,, our son has a pellet stove ,, the room the stove is in is almost hot ,, the bed rooms are cold the fan would move heat around the house more ...
here at home ,, the wife bakes , the kitchen and were the thermostat is gets warm , bed rooms are cool because the furnace runs very little
again thank you

red to green is for fan on. red has 24volts of power to it all the time. it is the positive side of the transformer.
on nearly all furnaces fan on circuit is high speed of the fan motor. it is used for air conditioning. heat is ran on low. heat uses a temp switch to turn it on and off. hope this answers your question.

easiest thing to do would be to replace the thermostat with one with a fan on switch. in my opinion. i am a fan of digital t stats. they dont have to be perfectly level and there is no heat anticipator to set. not much price difference either. generally easier to install. my opinion only.

The wiring diagram is usually inside the fan compartment door on warm air furnaces.
