Night Crawlers?

Ok I have couple hundred Night Crawlers. I Love them for the fact I can leave some in my Pickup in 90 degree heat and they do just fine.

Only problem I have with them I would say they are brittle. they break easy.

Is there anything I can do to correct this as far as feeding or anything?

Talking

I made a worm box with foam insulation that is a cubed 4 feet. They are in shredded news paper which they turn over fairly quick. I feed corn meal and veggie table scraps and scraps from garden produce I don't/can't eat.
their pretty tough too.
Problem I have is the mice want to get in the box during the winter. Easy to chew the little hole in it. Don't want it to wet in the winter.

I have mine in a Big Plastic Tub. Shredded News Paper, Peat Moss, Garden Soil. Feed them Vegetable Scraps, Laying Mash and crushed Egg Shell.

If they are brittle you might be over feeding them. In the nursery we would heal in the shrubs with wood chips. These would break down and we'd add more woodchips. When someone bought a shrub we would dig the ball out of the woodchips and most people were surprized by the number of worms in there. They were really fat and squirming around real fast. Their skins were stretched out and shiny. We'd always hear "Look at all that fishing bait". The problem was that when you tried to put them on a hook they would break apart. Kind of like a boiled sausage. Try putting some in a media without to much organic matter and see how they do after a few days. They might toughen up.
