Today on the ponds

Today I spent some time exploring the ponds of my old fish farm. I was looking for tadpoles and thought I had found one but it looked strange. I caught it several times in my cupped hands but it always left with the water until I was finally able to hold it in my hands.

It turned out to be a tiger salamander larvae. I could tell by the external gills.

The common toads are singing non-stop and I found lots of their single strand eggs full of black embryos.

If I had the money to keep an attorney on retainer to fight the inevitable illegal attack by the DNR I would consider raising fish again. It's pretty interesting to watch all the things that the ponds produce.

There's two broods of Canada geese too.
