camped on the new place

I spent 5 days camping on the new 34 acres I bought. The posting signs are already up so I built a deer stand while I was there.

I took the dog grouse hunting. We actually flushed some grouse. This is a big deal because the place I am living at is borderline grouse habitat. When the grouse popualtion is at a high point, there are grouse here. A low population level, like now, means no grouse. The new place has grouse even at the bottom of the population cycle so I can't wait to see how it is at the high.

I had dinner with CF, WIHH, and Fishhead. Fishhead has a great new springer and has been putting up grouse too. The dinner was excellent. The beans had a little kick but didn't come back on me later in the evening. Thanks WIHH for holding off on the temptation to make them Texas hot. The venison, blueberry, and maple brats were awesome too. Hang on to that butcher.

Score so far is 6 grouse flushed, one seen very briefly, two seen long enough to shoot at, three shots fired, grouse six, Curt zero.

Too old to sleep on the ground. I have the smallest pop-up tent trailer Coleman made in '89. Friday night was raining and then below freezing. The converter quit working so the furnace doesn't work either. I slept cozy warm with 2 sleeping bags and a 75 pound Weimaraner snuggling.

The pie was awesome homemade apple. Thanks for dinner and the good conversation around the campfire.
